The 7 Keys

You’ll find a single theme repeated throughout the Vibrant, Healthy Living blog:
the relatively new idea that a healthy, fit brain is essential to aging with grace and vitality.

Just like our physical well-being, the health and well-being of our brain depends on a variety of factors.  Experts approach the factors in different ways;  here, we’ll be organizing them into 7 loose categories:.

  3. Diet / Nutrition
  4. Stress Management
  5. Social Interaction
  6. Sleep: Quality & Quantity
  7. Spirituality / Purpose & Meaning

Over time, we’ll be exploring each of the 7 keys in depth, making suggestions about brain-healthy life choices, sharing inspiring stories of brain fitness in action, providing shining examples of successful aging, and offering links to supporting science.

Some aspects of the “keys” may  surprise you – on the surface, they seem more about the mind, than the brain.  But modern neuroscience  has demonstrated that the way we think, and  even *what* we think,  has a direct impact on the physical structure of the brain, as well as impacting our immune system, general energy levels, etc.  It’s pretty astounding, because it has powerful implications for how we can use our minds and attitudes  to change our brains, and therefore, our lives.

Brain fitness and mental health are important predictors of successful aging – and it’s never too late to start.

By tending to the 7 keys, you can reshape your brain, and nurture the positive attitudes and healthy habits that lead to a vibrant life even in your 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and beyond.
